Non-Immigrant Visas

A “non-immigrant” visa is a temporary visa, which allows the holder to apply to enter the U.S. for a specific purpose and for a limited time.

Foreign nationals (FNs) may legally enter the U.S. as non-immigrants with a temporary visa.
Often non-immigrant entry into the U.S. is a two-step process:

  • First, the FN must obtain a visa stamp abroad at an American consulate

  • Second, the FN must present the visa stamp to the CBP Inspector at the port of entry to receive an I-94 card, which governs the length of stay
